1 David's correct date of death appears to be 30 Dec 1919, based on his obituary in the Syracuse Journal, Wednesday, 31 Dec 1919:

Cycle Rider Dies, Age 85

David Sheldon Winans, 85, at one time widely known for his ability of riding a bicycle, died Tuesday night at his home, 108 McAllister av, after a long illness. Eight years ago, Mr. Winans rode his bicycle from this city to Canajoharie, a distance of 96 [?] miles. The next day with his cousin, Gerardus Winans, he wheeled to Schenectady. From there, they went to Middleburg where they used to live. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cornelia Winans. Private funeral services will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.


2 The information on Mary Winans Clark's family appears to be in error. Although the Rev. David Clark (1776-1847) did have a son named John, Mary wasn't David's granddaughter or John's daughter, but the daughter of David and his first wife Rachel Rutter.
3 Samuel's death was recorded as follows in the Miami Union, 3 Mar 1872:
WINANS, SAMUEL - Mr. Samuel Winans of Springcreek between sixty-five and seventy.
4 Mrs. Egy has misnumbered the last two children, who were the 6th and 7th in this family.
5 Mrs. Egy gives the wrong number for Elizabeth, whose number was actually (1-5-5-1-1-2). The link will take you to the right person.
6 This obituary, from the Miami Union, 8 Dec 1910, provides the identity of one of John and Margaret's other children:
WINANS, ANTHONY - Anthony Winans died at his home in Fletcher Monday night [5 Dec 1910], aged 75 years. He was taken ill the day after Thanksgiving and died from heart trouble brought on by the infirmities of advancing years. Deceased was a quiet, steady, reliable citizen. He learned the carpenter's trade in his home town and followed it there until the end. He is survived by his wife. One son and one daughter died some years ago. J. Cory Winans, traveling passenger agent of the C. H. & D. R.R., is a brother. The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2 o'clock in the afternoon at his late home. The Rev. Tedford of Fletcher officiated. Interment in Fletcher cemetery.
Fletcher is in Miami county, about 5 miles east of Piqua.
