When Mrs. Egy compiled her monumental genealogical tome, she broke it down into several sections. This is the beginning of the section for Conrad Winans' son William Winans' line. It includes pages detailing the line of Major Ira Winans, upon whose research Mrs. Egy's book and this family album are heavily dependent. For Mrs. Egy's explanation of her abbreviations and numbering system, please read the introduction to her book.

WILLIAM was b 26 June 1726 at Rahway, N. J. d 1826 in Dutchess Co., N. Y. (per Mrs. Anne Ketterman of Coffeeville, Kan). He md 1745/6 in Greenwich, Conn Sarah Hawley b ca 1726. William chose his brother James as his guardian at Stamford, Conn on 3 Mar 1740/1. Either he or his son would be the William of Rensselaerville, Albany Co., N. Y. in 1790. Major Ira Winans refers to a son named Gerardus or Claudius or Gradus b ca 1757 and named on William's tax list in 1786. There is no proof that he was a son of William-3 as he is not mentioned any where else in any records that I have been able to find.

1 Note the contradictions as to who Phillip Couchman's mother was -- Phebe Winans or Christina Stickles?
2 The name of this place is spelled Horse Neck in other sources.
3 Odgen is a typo for Ogden, which is now a suburb of Rochester, NY.
4 This is an unusual name. There is no such town in modern-day New York, but the name was once used for a land patent in northern Dutchess county.
5 This must be a typo by Mrs. Egy. Shouldn't this person's surname be Couchman?
