When Mrs. Egy compiled her monumental genealogical tome, she broke it down into several sections, each starting with its own page 1. These pages are the beginning of the section for John Winans' son Jacob Winans' line. This section has been transcribed in its entirety. For Mrs. Egy's explanation of her abbreviations and numbering system, please read the introduction to her book.

In this section, Mrs. Egy makes frequent mention of tombstone inscriptions. Many of Jacob's descendants are buried in the cemetery of the First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth, New Jersey. A transcription of all Winans burial information for that cemetery is available in this Carey Family Album.

Page navigation bar — In March 2015, we began using a different format for these bars which you see above and below the text of each subsection of Mrs. Egy's book. Instead of listing all the pages we've transcribed so far, we condensed this feature by showing only the page ranges of other subsections, but individual page numbers within this subsection. As time permits, we'll make it standard.

1 Clarence Frederic Winans (1899-1986) (1-8-6-4-5-2-3-1-1) is the father of my eighth cousin, Don Winans, who married my wife Jeanette's first cousin Bev.
2 Abigail wasn't Job's first cousin. She was actually his second cousin, one generation removed.
3 There may be some confusion here on Mrs. Egy's part. The list of burials at the Presbyterian church does include a "Jacob Winans" whose stone has no information beyond his name, but his entry is followed immediately by a "Susan Woodruff, wife of Jacob Winans". In addition, two daughters who died in childhood are buried with Susan.
4 Mrs. Egy gives a wrong number for Sarah in two places. Her correct number is (1-9-1-5-2).
5 The inscription on stone #1176 as listed in our transcriptions of burials at the First Presbyterian Church doesn't agree with the photograph which Glen Winans sent us. The latter, while definitely the same person's stone, looks much newer than an original grave marker could be.
6 Additional information on this line has been provided by cousin Peter Feld, who supplies dates for John (1790 to 1860) and Hannah (1793 to 1880), and tells us that their son Benjamin's dates were 1833 to 1860 and Catherine Outcault's dates were 1834 to 1895, and that their son John H. Winans' dates were 1857 to 1925 while Anna C. Giebel's were 1858 to 1858. John and Anna had a daughter Anna Celeste Winans (11/26/1893 to 1975), who married Peter J. Cavanaugh (3/1/1884 to 1962). Peter is Anna Celeste's great-grandson.
