Issac (of test) seems to have settled in either Florida or Summerville, Orange Co., N. Y. during the Rev. and would be the Isaac of Orange Co. Militia which service has often and erroneously been suggested for Isaac (1-5-1-3-6)1 who lived across state line in Northampton Co., Pa. per John Baldwin of Ohio. I find also in this report that "Isaac (4th Gen) Winans moved to Goshen Precinct, Orange Co., N. Y. about the beginning of the American Rev. As herein before mentioned his father Isaac (3rd gen) Winans was an American soldier, so was Isaac (4th gen) Winans and his son William (5th Gen) Winans. Here we find three generations, father, son and grandson, all fighting at the same time and in the same army". (AWW)

Line of MATTHIAS WINANS
JOHN-ISAAC-ISAAC-MATTHIAS (1-9-1-3)

MATTHIAS was b 1739 (IW's Mss). His will dated "Borough of Elizabeth 15 Feb 1780 and probated 27 Dec 1782," names wife and three children. He ran a tavern in Elizabeth in 1778. His wife was Rachel Morse d 1797 dau of Joseph who d 5 June 1773 and Ann Morse. A resident of Elizabeth, Matthias was not the Essex Co. Revolutionary soldier which service pertains to (1-5-1-1-5). The name Ross enters the family here with one of Matthias' children. It may be the maiden name of either Matthias' or Rachel's mother.
The name Kipp also enters the family here. Matthias' son Isaac Ross-5 md a dau of Henry Kipp but daughter Mary-5 named a child Henry Kipp. It is possible but unusual that Mary would name a child for her brother's father-in-law, thus the name Kipp may actually arise earlier, either as the mother of Matthias or the mother of Rachel.

Page navigation bar — In March 2015, we began using a different format for these bars which you see above and below the text of each subsection of Mrs. Egy's book. Instead of listing all the pages we've transcribed so far, we condensed this feature by showing only the page ranges of other subsections, but individual page numbers within this subsection. As time permits, we'll make it standard.

1 The meaning of page 3's first line is unclear. In addition, the number cited (1-5-1-3-6) for the other Isaac seems to be wrong, since it pertains to an Abigail Winans.
2 O. C. Winans, on page 678 of Winans Family lists the following children for Elias and Esther: Mr. Winans doesn't imply any particular order for these names, which he took from Elias' will. On page 676, where he discusses Elias' father Abraham's will, he gives the Ryerson spelling for a son's name.
3 This Esther appears to be the woman buried near Elias, whose gravestone reads "In Memory of Esther Winans, Late Wife of Benjamin Watkins..."
4 Ryerson and Riason would appear to be the same name. See also Riosen in the preceding footnote. However it is spelled, it could be the surname of one of Gozen's maternal ancestors.
5 Elias married his cousin, Mary Close Winans (1-9-3-4-4-2).
6 Sabra's son married Mary Althea Winans (1-9-3-4-8-2).
7 This is almost certainly the Maline Winans, buried in Elizabethtown's 1st Presbyterian Cemetery, who died 12 Jan 1845, aged 11 years, 10 months and 28 days.
