Ohio chronology

Champaign County.

May 1866John L. Perry, who is my great-grandma's younger brother, marries Cindy Bradley and they set off on a journey together which covers six states and ends up in Santa Monica, California, more than fifty years later.
1867My great-grandparents, David and Sally Carey, arrive in Salem township from Miami county; later on they move into the town of Urbana.
Jul 1879My grandfather, Sam Carey, is born in Urbana.
Jan 1907My dad, Dave Carey, is born in Urbana.
Oct 1921At John and Cindy Perry's invitation, Sam and Kate Carey and children move to Santa Monica.

Gallia County.

~1845My 2g-grandparents, John and Mary Perry, arrive in Gallipolis via flatboat from Venango county, PA. They stay only 5 years before moving on to Miami county.

Logan County.

Fall 1845There's a great migration of Mennonites from Pennsylvania to this part of Ohio, including my 2g-grandparents, Sam and Juliana Plank, who settle on a farm in Union township.
Feb 1850My great-grandfather, Samuel Washington Plank, is born to Sam and Juliana on George's birthday in Union township.
Mar 1871Samuel W. Plank marries Elizabeth Wilhelm in Bellefontaine.
Jan 1882My grandmother, Kathryn Plank, is born to Samuel and Elizabeth in West Liberty.
Sep 1894After Samuel Plank's death, his widow Elizabeth marries David D. Yoder in West Liberty.

Mercer County.

1850Jeanette's 2g-grandparents, John and Julia Inman, and their children are enumerated in Washington township, near the Indiana border. They live in Ohio until about 1858 when they move to DeKalb county, IN.

Miami County.

1800/1810My 3g-grandparents, George and Phebe Carey, arrive from New Jersey along many of their Carey, Winans and Clark relatives, settling in Staunton township.
Sep 1825My 2g-grandparents, Ben Carey and Hannah Winans, are married near Troy.
~1830There is an exodus to Illinois of Phebe's brothers and other Clark relatives.
~1835George and Phebe Carey move to Paulding county to join their children, Isaac and Sarah, there. Ben and Hannah and their family probably move with them.
Oct 1846Jeanette's great-grandfather, Ben Inman, is born, possibly in Miami county, although by 1850, his family is living in Mercer county.
1850My 2g-grandparents, John and Mary Perry, arrive from Pennsylvania, via Gallia county.
Jan 1861My great-grandparents, David Carey and Sally Perry, marry in Troy.
1867David and Sally move to Champaign county, at about the same time as Sally's parents, John and Mary Perry.

Montgomery County.

late 1850sMy 2g-grandparents, Henry and Eliza Wilhelm arrive in Dayton from Monroe county, MI, with their family, including my great-grandmother Elizabeth.
Mar 1906Sam Carey and Kate Plank are married in Dayton, but return to Urbana to live.
~1919David Carey, who is a Civil War veteran, enters the Soldiers Home near Dayton, where he dies in Feb 1921.

Paulding County.

1823George Carey's son, Isaac, and his family come to Paulding county, settling in Auglaize township. Their descendants remain in this area for several generations. George's daughter, Sarah Hudson and her family may have moved to Paulding soon afterwards.
~1835Some of my Carey ancestors, including George and Phoebe and Ben and Hannah, follow Isaac to Paulding county, staying for 5-10 years, before returning to Miami county.
Nov 1838My great-grandfather, David Carey, is born near Defiance in an area that may be a part of present-day Defiance county.
1846George Carey dies, probably in Paulding county. He is said to be buried in Miami county, but nobody has located his grave in either place. Phebe may have returned to Miami county after George's death.
