Rollins-Layton 1831 Deed

We noticed an obvious connection between the Rollins family and our own Carey ancestors, since George and Phebe Carey and several of their children all moved to Auglaize township for awhile in the 1830s, as did their Winans and Rollins relatives. The following deed, which Jerry Stout transcribed, and which may reflect our families' preparations for a move to Paulding county, is illustrative of these families' connections:

JONATHAN ROLLINS, etc. to JOSEPH LAYTON (land S2 T1 R11)

Know all men by these presents that we Jonathan ROLLINS and Sarah his wife, Lewis WINANS and Lydia his wife, David CAREY and Elizabeth his wife, all of the county of Miami and State of Ohio for and in consideration of the Sum of One Hundred Dollars to them in hand paid by JOSEPH LAYTON of the county and state aforesaid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold revised and quit claimed and by these presents do grant bargain sell revise and quit claim unto the said Joseph Layton and his heirs and assigns forever all ____ or parcel of land Situate and being in the County of Miami and State of Ohio as follow to wit:

Beginning at the North East corner of the N.W. Qr. of Section two in Town One and Range Eleven, between the Miami Rivers, and running first, South 20.02 Chains, Second West 14.96 Chains, Third North 20;02 Chains, Fourth East 14.98 Chains to the place of beginning, containing thirty acres, deeded to MOSES WINANS by Arthur D. BECK together with all and singular the __artaments and appertenences thereunto belonging or inn any wise appertaining and the revertions remainders rents ___ and proffits thereof and all the estate right title interest claim or demand whatsoever of us the Said Jonathan Rollins and Sarah his wife, Lewis Winans and Lydia his wife, David Carey and Elizabeth his wife, in the ___ law or equity of in and to the above said Joseph Layton and to his heirs and assigns forever. In witness whereof we the said Jonathan Rollins and Sarah his wife, Lewis Winans and Lydia his wife, David Carey and Elizabeth his wife have hereunto set their hands and seal this twenty first day of May in the year of our Lord one Thousand and thirty one.
